a hand consisting of two cards of the same rank, such as two Jacks
One pair is a poker hand that consists of two cards of the same rank, along with three other unrelated cards. For example, a hand with two tens and the cards 5, 8, and King is a one pair. It is ranked above high card but below two pair in the standard poker hand rankings. If two players have one pair, the player with the higher pair wins. If both players have the same pair, the next highest card, called the kicker, is used to determine the winner. If the kickers are also the same, the next card is compared.
- She won the hand with one pair of aces, beating everyone else at the table.
- Even though she only had one pair of kings, it was enough to take the pot.
- He had one pair of sevens and couldn’t win against the straight.
- They both had one pair, but his pair of queens was higher, so he won.
- In the last round, one pair of jacks was all he had, but it was still a decent hand.
