121 words

The Civil Rights Movement was a time in the 1960s when people fought for equal rights. Many people wanted to change unfair laws. Black people and their friends wanted to be treated the same as white people. They wanted to sit where they wanted and go to the same schools. One famous man, Martin Luther King Jr., gave a big speech. He said, 'I have a dream.' His dream was for all people to live together in peace. Many people marched in the streets. They wanted to show that everyone should be free. Today, we remember their hard work. We continue to fight for fairness for all people. This is important now, too. We all want to feel safe and respected.
